Teaching at Canada British Columbia International Schools

Benefits

Canada British Columbia International School offers a salary commensurate with BC and a competitive benefits package, including return airfare, accommodations, utilities allowance, medical insurance and visa costs coverage for new academic teachers.

Canada British Columbia International Schools are relatively small and offer teachers the opportunity to work in a close-knit and supportive professional environment. Canada British Columbia International School teachers also find China a good place to save money. The lower cost of living in China means that most teachers can enjoy a comfortable standard of living, experience travelling during the lengthy Chinese New Year Holiday, and still save a significant amount of money at the end of each year.

Challenges

Living and working abroad is an adventure, but can also bring challenges. New teachers can expect to experience cultural elements that are quite different from Canada and can be frustrating at times. Our schools’ Chinese staff help with the challenges of adjusting to a new and unfamiliar environment as much as possible but there are times when handling different situations can require patience and a positive outlook.

Most teachers will experience culture stress to some degree. The novelty of living in a foreign land eventually wears off, and the cultural nuances can seem increasingly frustrating until a teacher adapts to their new living and working environment.

The Ideal Applicant

The ideal applicant for an academic teaching position within Canada British Columbia International Schools desires to have a profound impact on students’ academic development. CBC teachers must be committed to the highest level of professional conduct and have expertise within a particular subject area while maintaining a willingness to take on additional subject assignments.

The ideal applicant respects other cultures and has a particular interest in China. Canada British Columbia International School teachers need to be able to maintain a positive attitude, be adaptable and flexible, and able to work well within a team in the interests of our schools and students.
