Teaching assignment: Teachers will be assigned to their areas of training, expertise and interest as per the needs of the school.

Hours of instruction: Classes at CBC – Hefei typically begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. with a mid-morning “exercise break” of 1/2 hour and a mid-day break of 2 hours or more. Most classes are semestered and occur in 75-minute blocks with teachers usually teaching 3-4 blocks per day.

The School and Surrounding Area: Hefei No. 1 High School is located about 10 km from the city centre. The area is quite new and exists because of Hefei No. 1 and a junior school next door, with a total student population of about 10,000. The area boasts expansive streets, relatively little traffic, many new high rise apartment buildings, and all necessary amenities nearby. A good-sized shopping mall with a large supermarket, banks, restaurants, and many shops is within walking distance of the school. The housing available to teachers is quite new and of a very acceptable standard from a Westerners point of view.

Teachers generally walk or bike to and from school. Transportation to the downtown core is easy by bus or taxi; a 20 – 30 minute trip. Many nearby cities, including Shanghai, are accessible by fast train and the airport is only 20 minutes from the school. The city of Nanjing, about an hour away by train, makes an interesting weekend destination. Other possible weekend destinations are Wuhu on the Yangtze River, and a hot springs resort that is a short bus trip away.  For detailed information about Hefei and the surrounding area look at http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/.
